WHAT WE DO

We are a 100% volunteer fire department serving the communities of Mountville Borough, parts of West Hempfield Township, and surrounding municipalities. Our mission is to protect life, property, and the environment. We provide emergency services such as fire suppression, rescue, and hazardous materials response. We also offer fire prevention education and safety inspections to the public.

We are largely funded by the generosity of our local community. Funds raised go towards the maintenance of our building and apparatuses, as well as utilities and the purchase of new equipment for our active duty firefighters.

Donations can add up, so any little bit helps. Through our secure and easy-to-use PayPal link, you can set up a reoccurring donation that will automatically set aside a monthly contribution.

We are committed to serving and engaging with our local community. We participate in community events and offer tours of our fire station to schools and other groups. We also offer volunteer opportunities for individuals who want to contribute to their community.

Community Involvement

We believe that prevention is the key to reducing the number of fires in our community. We offer fire prevention education to the public, including fire safety tips, home safety inspections, educational materials for kids, as well as free smoke detectors.

Training & Development

We are committed to providing our volunteers with the necessary training and development opportunities to ensure that they are prepared to respond to emergency situations. We offer ongoing training in fire suppression, rescue, and hazardous materials response.

We are available 24/7 to respond to emergency calls. Our highly trained volunteers are equipped with the necessary tools and equipment to handle various emergency situations, including fire suppression, rescue, and hazardous materials response.

Emergency Response

We are responsible for maintaining our equipment and ensuring that it is in good working condition. This includes regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs to ensure that our equipment is ready to go when we need it.

Equipment Maintenance

We work closely with neighboring fire departments to provide mutual aid in case of a large-scale emergency. This ensures that we have the necessary resources to respond effectively and efficiently to any emergency situation.

HOW MUCH DOES OUR GEAR COST?

HELMET

A standard composite helmet can cost $400, while leather helmets are now more than $1,000.

JACKET AND PANTS

Commonly called “Bunker Gear”, these two pieces alone can cost between $3,000-$4,000.

HOOD

This form-fitting piece protects the neck, ears, and chin of a firefighter from heat and flames. They cost between $50 and $100.

GLOVES

Fire-resistant structure fire gloves are usually a little more than $100. They also protect from cuts, broken glass, and some chemicals that could be found at a hazardous materials incident.

BOOTS

Each set of boots cost over $500.

Many of these pieces of equipment have a life-span of only a few years, and once the end of that life is reached, they need to be replaced. Would you want to risk your life on the cheapest clothing available or use an SCBA that is more than a decade old? Please don’t ask your local volunteers to do the same. Please consider donating today, or setting up reoccurring payments of just a few dollars a month. It adds up and can really help.
