Engine and Air Take A Job With Company 67

Building Apartment 1A_1At approximately 1540 ours, Engine Company 7 was alerted to assist Company 67 (Rohrerstown) on a reported Apartment Building fire in the 800 block of Estelle Drive. The Engine responded with a staffing of 3 under the direction of LT 7 (Weitzel). Upon arrival, E71 grabbed our own water supply and sent the crew to assist Company 67 in the sub-division. Moments after making entry in the sub-division, there were electrical meters popping and arcing. Command 67 (Schoenberger) sounded the evacuation tone and requested all crews out of the structure until PP&L could secure the utilities at the pole. Air 7 was later requested for air support, staffed by Chief 7 (Gantz) and Chief 7A (Kalbach).

Once utilities were secured, crews returned to the fire room to finish fire suppression and over haul. E7 crew vented the sub-division apartments, the were returned to the engine to pickup, and were released shortly after. Engine and Air 7 worked the assignmnet for approximately 1 1/2 hours.

Life Member Roberta M. "Bobbe" West

flaghalfOn January 12, 2012, Mountville Fire Company No. 1 Life Member Roberta M. "Bobbe" West passed away. Over the years, she was a member of the Mountville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, as well as the Mountville Fire Company No. 1.  She held leadership positions in both organizations during her years of service.

With the fire department she was a member of the Fire Police on the Line side, and on the Administrative side, she held the elected offices of President and Treasurer, among others.  She was very dedicated and passionate about whatever her role was while serving the community.

We thank her for her service and extend our deepest sympathies to her family in this time of sorrow.

Membership Votes To Change Station Identification Number

eng71At the December 2011 monthly Business Meeting, a letter from Lancaster County Wide Communications (LCWC) was read, asking that we consider changing our station identification number from 7-15 (a three digit identifier), to a 2 digit identifier. After a lengthy discussion, it was tabled, pending the answers to a variety of questions raised.

At the January 2012 monthly Business Meeting, the discussion continued with the additional information, including the answer to the availability of single digit identifiers. LCWC approved the use of single digits. The membership the voted enthusiastically to change the Mountville Fire Company No. 1 station identifier to Station 7.

At the convenience of LCWC in 2012, we will make the change from station 7-15 to Station 7. When this happens, our lineup will be:

  • Engine 71 - 2008 Crimson
  • Engine 72 - 1995 Pierce
  • Squad 7 - 2004 Crimson
  • Squad 72 - 1996 Chevy Impala
  • Chief 7 - Dean Gantz, Jr.
  • Deputy 7 - Michael Dicely
  • Assistant 7 - Andrew Kalbach
  • Lieutenant 7 - Adam Weitzel

What Can You Do To Help?

Have you ever wondered what you can do fro your community?  Have you ever seen a firetruck pass by and thought to your self "Someday I want to do that"?  Well, then here is your chance...the Mountville Fire Company No. 1 is looking for you.  The Mountville Fire Company is looking for Volunteers for the following fields:
  • Junior Firefighters - Ages 14 - 18
  • Senior Firefighters - Age 18 and older
  • Fire Police - Age 18 and older
Is firefighting not our thing?  We are also looking for Social Members for the department.  Social members, among other things, can help with the setup of fundraisers and other activities for the department.  If any of these interest you then please fill out an Application Request, then stop by the firehouse some Monday evening between 7pm and 9pm for a tour of the station and to meet the team that provides quality fire protection for the Borough of Mountville and surrounding areas.
